How One Hygiene Basket Became the Start of a New Life

After more than a decade without stable housing, Geanita walked through the doors of her new home at Vista Village with both relief and apprehension. The journey to that moment had not been easy—marked by hardship, addiction, and the constant challenge of survival.

What greeted her inside wasn’t just a clean space or a place to sleep. It was something much more personal.

On the table was a Welcome Home Basket filled with hygiene products, thoughtfully packed and donated through Divine Dignity.

“When I walked in and saw the basket, I knew I was right where I was supposed to be,” she told us.“I feel human again after all the struggles and overcoming my addiction in life and being able to relax in my own place. It’s so overwhelming with joy.”

The items in the basket may have seemed simple—soap, shampoo, a toothbrush, lotion—but to Geanita, they represented something far deeper: the affirmation that she matters. That she is seen. That she is home. And she’s not alone.

Geanita continued:

“I’m probably not only speaking for myself. I’m sure my other peers that live here are very grateful as well. So thank you again for all that you have done for me. You have changed my life with gratitude.”
