Listening First: A Visit to the Columbus Dream Center

Sometimes the work begins with a simple message.

In November, Terry was contacted by Robby from the Columbus Dream Center to talk about the possibility of becoming hygiene partners. The request came from a place of real need, and it opened the door to a meaningful conversation about how Divine Dignity could support their work.

Using hygiene supplies from a Kits of Kindness donation, Divine Dignity was able to provide 200 dignity bags to help serve individuals and families connected to the Columbus Dream Center. Each bag included essential hygiene items intended to meet immediate needs with care and respect.

Becky and Terry delivered the bags in person and were invited to tour the facility. During the visit, they learned more about the Dream Center’s mission and the many ways they walk alongside people facing homelessness, poverty and crisis. The scope of need was clear, particularly when it comes to access to basic hygiene.

For Divine Dignity, moments like this call for both action and prayer. We believe it is important to respond when needs arise, while also taking time to listen and discern how God may be leading us forward. The Columbus Dream Center serves a large number of individuals who would benefit from consistent access to hygiene, and the opportunity to partner more deeply is one we are carefully considering.

As we look ahead to 2026, we are prayerfully discerning what it would look like to establish a more permanent partnership with the Columbus Dream Center. This could include ongoing hygiene support and the possibility of opening a hygiene center to serve those who rely on their programs.

We are grateful for organizations who reach out, invite collaboration and share their work openly. These relationships help guide where Divine Dignity can best serve and steward resources with care.

We will continue to pray, listen and take thoughtful steps as we seek to meet real needs and protect dignity across Central Ohio.
